Well, sorry to hear that Jon Wang- despite his great SATs and grades- didn't make it into the colleges of his dreams. He is in my thoughts and prayers. Well actually, not really. Plenty of us get rejected from jobs or relationships and don't take it up to the Supreme Court so other groups can have a lower chance at success.
Colleges don't look at SATs much anymore. Grades can be artificially inflated by high schools that want to look good. What admissions really value are extracurriculars, leadership roles, recommendations, essays, volunteer work etc. I had a 3.2 GPA and a 1340 SAT, but won a partial scholarship to a good school because I was editor of the literary magazine and captain of the tennis team.
Lastly: affirmative action exists because the point of an education is to learn FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE DIFFERENT THAN YOU. Students learn from professors and books, but also from other students. Diversity on campus benefits everyone.
