Rather, it's due to poverty, food insecurity, lack of healthcare, and a shortage of jobs that pay a living wage. The biggest stressors on kids are watching their parents work multiple jobs to keep the power on and fretting about whether food stamps would cover the remaining month's groceries. If you were 14 and this was your life, you'd escape onto TikTok too. Over the past 90 years, children have been exposed to radio, then TV, then video games, without a corresponding increase in mental health crises. So what's changed? As James Carville once quipped, "It's the economy, stupid."
