Thank you for this!! It's especially true in my state of Virginia, where our far-right nut job governor Glenn Youngkin weaseled his way into office on a platform of "parents' rights" to "protect their children." Protect them from what, you may ask? Guns? Car accidents? Drug overdoses? Nope- books, specifically 17- and 18-yr-olds reading Toni Morrison's Beloved for AP Lit. Youngkin convinced older, wealthier, rural Republican voters that impressionable apple-cheeked White students would feel shame and discomfort from the novel's brutal portrayal of chattel slavery. But his most dangerous and idiotic moment was to brainwash conservative parents into assuming "complete control" over their child's education. I'm sorry, but unless you plan on handcuffing the little brat to the bottom of the stairs, they'll inevitably have to go out and become a part of a larger society. The moms of Gilead don't like, or even want, children. But dolls are another story!
