I was an English major in college on a partial sports scholarship, so I had to work (sometimes 2 or more jobs) during the summer. I was always envious of classmates who got hip publishing internships while I had to waitress and bartend all summer at these Irish dive joints that smelled like piss, cigarettes, and stale potato soup. In the end it didn't matter lol- when I was 23, one of my regulars hired me full time and I got my foot in the door of the writing world (grants/proposals.) 15 yrs later, I have a great career with a six-figure salary. I'm not lying, bragging, or exaggerating- just saying that you can get good jobs without unpaid or minimum wage internships. :)
