I completely agree that the West needs to pay much more attention about what is going on in Sudan! I'm a pacifist who doesn't take political sides, but you might find this interesting: 15 years ago I was a Red Cross EMT in South Ashkelon, Israel (about 6 or 7 miles from the Gaza border), which is basically a giant housing project for recent immigrants from Africa and the former Soviet Union. When I was there, Israel had just admitted 2,000 refugees from Darfur into the South Ashkelon area. A few of them were my patients- I can vouch that they did exist! Israel put them into "merkaz klitas," which stands for "absorption houses" with apartments, a school, job training, healthcare etc. For some reason Israel does take in quite a bit of foreign refugees- not sure of the details but one of the levels of the 7-story Tel Aviv transit station is all Asian-owned businesses founded by refugees fleeing Southeast Asia sometime in the 70s or 80s.
