I agree that mental health crises among young people have skyrocketed, and technology probably isn't helping anything. But there are a few other equally significant factors: poverty, food insecurity, lack of healthcare, and shortage of jobs that pay a living wage. Major stressors for kids include watching their parents exhaustedly work multiple jobs just to keep the power on and fretting over whether food stamps will stretch to the end of the month. Over the past 80 years, children have been introduced to radio, then TV, then video games, without resulting spikes in mental illness. As James Carville once quipped, "It's the economy, stupid."
