15 years ago, I was an EMT in South Ashkelon, which saw 900 casualties this past week. I've also been to the Gaza border checkpoint (to transport a Palestinian patient) and it's a crater of concrete rubble ringed by barbed wire. They don't need a military invasion. They have 75% youth unemployment and zero infrastructure. The UN needs to organize a massive effort to build roads, schools, hospitals, permanent housing- some refugees have been living in tents for 40 plus years. What ultimately solved the Troubles in Northern Ireland was the Celtic Tiger (economic boom); people decided they'd rather go shoe shopping than take potshots at each other.

My college ex bf is Muslim (I'm Jewish) and we've been texting back and forth all week about the different issues and solutions for this very complex situation. Neither of us want to see more deaths or injuries. There are very smart people on both sides. Sit them down at the table.
